To properly protect your data, just encrypting isn't enough. Evidence of encryption can lead to suspicion or a legal obligation to decrypt. To be truly secure, your encrypted data also needs to be hidden.
The Phantomdrive is a secure, portable device that encrypts and hides your data.
When initally plugged in, it presents a standard USB drive. When authenticated, a previously undetectable, encrypted partition is mounted.
All data written is encrypted and decrypted transparently and securely using the drive's onboard hardware AES module. Your password is never stored in memory, and no software or drivers are required - everything is handled on device.
The Phantomdrive uses microSD cards for storage; users can easily swap cards to use several encrypted archives with just one device.
PROTECT & HIDE
Data are encrypted on-device with AES-256. When un-authorised, the encrypted partition is undetectable.
EASY TO USE
No complicated configuration. No drivers or software required. Works cross-platform: just plug it in.
OPEN-SOURCE & AUDITABLE
Source-code and schematics are on Github for your inspection, customisation and development.

IMPORTANT ⚠️ Update your firmware
The PhantomDrive is delivered with firmware version 1.2. We highly recommend flashing v1.3 which adds some ease-of-use / quality-of-life updates, including automatic initial SD card formatting and preparation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I authenticate / unlock the device?
Create a text-file that contains password:MyVerySecurePassword (Where "MyVerySecurePassword" is a long, secure password of your choice). The Phantomdrive monitors the default filesystem - when it sees this trigger, it reads the password, derives the AES256 key and remounts the hidden partition.
Why is this better than VeraCrypt?
VeraCrypt has two types of partitions: hidden, or visible.
- Visibile partitions can be detected: an adversary knows that you have encrypted data. Many government, customs and law-enforcement agencies can legally compel you provide keys for encrypted data. When locked, the Phantomdrive works as a standard 8GB USB-drive. The encrypted partition is undetectable until you choose to reveal it.
- VeraCrypt's hidden partitions are complicated to setup and easy to break. Likewise, they are somewhat impractical for portable drives - you must use the VeraCrypt software to unencrypt, mount, and unmount.
Why does Phantomdrive use microSD cards?
MicroSD cards provide more flexibility: users can easily swap between encrypted microSD cards without needing to purchase multiple Phantomdrives.
What happens if someone removes the microSD card?
The data on the microSD cards are encrypted - removing the card does not reveal your data.
