Introduction

The Hak5 LAN Turtle is a tiny network infiltration multi-tool masquerading as an innocent USB-to-Ethernet Adaptor. Easily configure via the inbuilt graphic shell, and deploy payloads such as MITM surveillence, network-scanning, VPN-tunneling, etc.

Available in two versions: Offline Storage and Online (3G).

Optionally with or without the official Hak5 LAN Turtle Field Guide (28 pages) - perfect for hitting the ground running.

Functionality at a glance

The LAN Turtle provides a fully configurable, fully extendable payload toolkit wrapped in a covert case. Designed as a covert pivot into target networks, the device has significant functionality despite its small size.

Housed in a generic "USB to Ethernet Adaptor" case, the LAN Turtle is inconspicuous, compact and designed to blend into the background when attached to a target network.

Payload and system configuration are performed via a simple graphic shell, allowing the device to be (pre) configured to your specific requirements.

The Offline Storage version provides MicroSD expansion - perfect for lengthy unattended sniffing / network intelligence gathering.

The Online (3G) version provides permanent connectivity via cellular / data connection. Load a data SIM and the LAN Turtle can punch through firewalls, instantly establishing reverse shells / RATs / VPNs, etc.

Backed by the extensive Hak5 Module/Payload repository and fully extendable via bash, python or PHP - the LAN Turtle infinitely configurable.

Modules are rapidly installable from the Hak5 LAN Turtle "App Store".

Common use cases include:

Penetration Testing

Capture traffic. Poison DNS. Map internal networks and more. Go online and establish reverse shells & VPNs. Poison DNS. Deploy Meterpreter. Exfiltrate network traffic.

System Administration

Use as intelligent monitoring node. Monitor traffic states, create alerts, schedule tasks and reports. With the online version, securely tunnel to inside your trusted networks via OpenSSH from anywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the LAN Turtle provide wireless functionality?

The LAN Turtle is designed to be used with wired / ethernet networks. It does not have a wifi interface. For Wifi Penetration Testing devices, Lab401 recommends the Hak5 Wifi Pineapple devices.

The LAN Turtle 3G Edition has a wireless 3G/data ability via SIM card slot. This interface allows the device to be configured and controlled remotely, and also for reverse shells, data exfiltration, VPN intrusion, etc.

Is the LAN Turtle programmable?

Yes. The LAN Turtle supports the same programming framework as most other Hak5 products. Modules (off the shelf, or custom) can be installed on the product: pre-installed via SD, or remotely via 3G connection.

There is a large selection of drop-in modules providing a wide variety of functionalty. Please check the Hak5 LAN Turtle Module Library for more information.

How do you install the LAN Turtle?

Installation is rapid and discreet. The device is powered via standard USB-A connection, and accepts standard RJ-45 cables.

The device can be plugged into any powered USB socket - computer, external battery, projector, router.. etc.

Is the LAN Turtle covert?

The LAN Turtle is housed in an industry-standard USB to Ethernet adaptor, and evades all but the most in-depth scrutiny. USB-to-LAN devices are typically overlooked and seldom touched - making it perfect for installation behind desktop PCs, under desks, in dusty server racks, etc.

Lab401 has had good results by combining social engineering with covert installation; placing "official" labels (Such as: "Do not unplug - 03/2019") allow the devices to live in plain sight for longer.
