Chameleon Mini RevE Rebooted: Flashing to latest firmware

INTRODUCTION: 

The firmware for the Chameleon Mini Rev E Rebooted is open source. However, compiling the latest binaries is somewhat complicated, and requires access to an ARM compiler. 

There have been several improvements recently in the firmware, so Lab401 has compiled the latest commits into a downloadable firmware bundle.

Flashing the Chameleon Mini on a Windows machine (or emulated environment) is simple, following the steps below:

  1. Download the latest Chameleon Mini Rev E Rebooted tools here:
    https://github.com/iceman1001/ChameleonMini-rebooted/archive/master.zip

  2. Unzip the archive, and navigate to the folder:
    ChamelonMini-rebooted/Software/Win32
  3. Download the latest firmware update: https://lab401.com/products/chameleon-mini/firmware/latest.zip

  4. Unzip the archive into the Win32 folder.

  5. Press and hold the black button on the Chameleon Mini Rev E

  6. Connect the Chameleon Mini Rev E Rebooted without the battery, still holding the button.

  7. Run the application "BOOT_LOADER_EXE.exe" 
  • You should see text similar to:
    Erasing flash...  Success
    Checking memory from 0x0 to 0x6FFF...  Empty.
    0%                            100%  Programming 0x40 bytes...
    [>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>]  Success
    0%                            100%  Reading 0x400 bytes...
    0%                            100%  Programming 0x5E00 bytes...
    [>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>]  Success
    0%                            100%  Reading 0x7000 bytes...
    load_success!
    
  • If you receive the error 'def-old-driver: no device present'
    • Rename the file libusb0.dll to libusb0.dll.bak
    • Retry step 5
  • Disconnect and reconnect the Chameleon Device - you're finished, and your firmware is flashed to the latest version!
